Summer 2009 Update
Greetings!
I wanted to take this opportunity to give our supporting community an update on the Covello fund and welcome you to the upcoming 4th Annual Covello Classic.
Golf Outing:
This year’s Covello Classic will be held on Friday, October 2nd, 2009 at the Cranbury Golf Club. This is our main fundraising event for the year and past years have been very successful in raising over $14,000 each year. If you want to golf, sponsor or give please contact us or go to our website (see below).
Our Kids!!
Kids are what we’re about! HEWYBL had a great season this year despite the colder and wetter months of May, June and July. The current recession has hit many local families pretty hard this year and we are very blessed to have a wonderful and supportive community and through their kind giving we sponsored over 14 kids this year whose families could not afford the league fees for participation. It’s this type of servant leadership the Covello Fund provides to families in need and continues to keep these great kids involved in sports teaching them how to persevere and triumph over challenges in baseball which are similar to those they face off the baseball diamond. Keep it up and help us continue to raise money to continue to offer support to our players and their families.
Website!
www.covelloclassic.org is up and ready for business! We have posted past pictures of previous Golf Outings. Golfers can register online or print out registration forms and do it the old fashioned way of mailing them in. We are in process of hooking up an online secure transaction engine so you can pay for registration, sponsorships and make donations online to the fund. Feedback is appreciated. More to come…
Incorporation:
The Covello Fund was incorporated as a non-profit organization during the Fall of 2008, separate from the Hightstown East Windsor Youth Baseball League (HEWYBL). Both organizations wanted to split the legal and fiduciary responsibilities. HEWYBL is currently the main benefactor of our fundraising efforts. As the fund grows we have remained opened to support additional organizations and causes synergistic to the Covello fund’s mission and core values.
501c(3) Status:
We are in process of filing to obtain 501c(3) status with the Federal Government. This would enable the fund’s eligibility for grants and potentially obtain much larger corporate donations. Currently we are legally organized as a non-profit and have tax exempt status with the State of New Jersey.
Ms. Covello:
I’m proud to announce that Jerry’s daughter, Stephanie Covello, will be involved in the planning and execution of this year’s Golf Outing. Stephanie is Jerry’s oldest daughter and a recent graduate of George Washington University. Those of you in attendance at the outing this year will have the pleasure of meeting this wonderful young woman. Stephanie played soccer for GW during her 4 years in college and is an excellent testament of the principles and ideals that the Covello Fund espouses on how success on the field can translate to success in life.
